and Kathy Davis wanted brighter smiles, Karen Gore anticipated
a new chapter in her life and Jeanell Hintergardt wasn't ready
to succumb to her 60s.
"I've
been a schoolteacher for 20 years, and I was beginning to
look 60 years old," Hintergardt said. "I wanted
to brighten up myself."

Bowman was simply ready for change.
"I
was tired of sitting at home, wearing slouchy sweats, no make-up
and a ponytail," she said.
So the
five women agreed to health and beauty makeovers that became
very public Tuesday as they glided down a fashion-show runway,
dazzling the luncheon crowd during A Time for Women Expo in
Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
"I'll
be glad to step on-stage," Gore had said 30 minutes before
the event. "The waiting has been nerve-racking."
Tuesday's unveiling capped a six-week process after the women
were selected from 100 entries in a contest designed for the
annual A Time for Women Expo, which is sponsored by The Avalanche-Journal.
"I
had seen makeovers on TV shows, so I was curious what went
into the process," said Gore, a 50-something nurse from
Lubbock. "So everything about it surprised me."
