"Today I am Blessed and Strong!"

'Never underestimate the power of this woman'

If I can get breast cancer, anyone can! I did everything right. I don't smoke, drink only occasionally, exercise and eat right, breast-fed my three sons, and have no family history of breast cancer. My only risk factor is being female. So I ask myself - How did I end up with breast cancer?

My survivor story is a true testament to the importance of early detection, a positive attitude and healthy lifestyle, and the power of prayer. All three have played an equally important role in my battle with breast cancer. In addition, the support from family, friends, and a talented team of doctors cannot be overlooked.

I guess the question is not "how did I end up with breast cancer," but rather "what am I going to do about it?" My focus now is exercise and diet. Several studies prove that regular exercise and eating a plant-based diet decrease risk of recurrence by 40-50 percent. So I walk and walk and walk! I use my lunch hour to get in about 5 miles a day, usually four to five times a week. For me, it is not a choice, but rather the path to remaining cancer-free for the rest of my life.

I have emerged from my victory over cancer with a realization that every day is a gift and the only thing you have control over is your attitude. Whether I live or die from this is up to GOD, but how I live is up to me. I have chosen to look at this chapter in my life with a positive outlook. I now live with the perspective that people are truly kind and good. I donít believe GOD causes disease, but uses these experiences to help us see the important things in life. HE has given me hope, faith, victory over fear, and the ability to see the good in people.

So I survive and beat cancer day by day as I trust in GOD's strength and not in cancer's weakness. I love to wear my favorite breast cancer shirt that says,

"Never underestimate the power of this woman".

For me, that says it all! As a mother of three sons, I have the power to heal boo-boos and broken hearts. As a wife, I have the power to make a house into a home. And with GOD's grace, I have the power to defeat illness with the knowledge that HIS power within us is greater than the cancer.
